
Dr Rainer Wend
Chairman of the Advisory Board
Dr Rainer Wend studied law at the Philipps University of Marburg and the Westfälische Wilhelms University of Münster. In 1984, he received his doctorate from the University of Bielefeld, where he had already been working as a research assistant since 1980. Dr Wend began his political career in 1970 when he joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). From 1994 to 2003 he was mayor of the city of Bielefeld, and in 1998 he entered the German Bundestag for the SPD. There, Dr Rainer Wend was Chairman of the Committee on Economic Affairs and Labour from 2002 to 2005 and a member of the SPD parliamentary group executive from 2002 to 2009. In 2009, Dr Wend joined Deutsche Post DHL Group, the leading international logistics and mail communication company with around 550,000 employees. Until the end of 2019, Dr Wend was Executive Vice President and Head of Corporate Policy and Regulatory Management worldwide. Dr Wend is also a member of several supervisory and advisory boards and has been Managing Director of Universitätsgesellschaft Bielefeld since June 2019. Dr Wend has held several positions within the EUTOP Group, including as a member of the Executive Board and most recently as a member of the Advisory Board. He has been Chairman of the Advisory Board of the EUTOP Group since 13 May 2025.
